Immersed vs Vervu

Vervu logs what you watched. Immersed plans it, times it and shows the proof.

Vervu is a small, new iPhone app that does one thing: you log the shows, podcasts and reading you did in your language, and it shows your totals, streaks and milestones. Immersed starts from a different idea: hours are one number, and what you did in them is what moves you, so every session is one of nine immersion activities with a rating of how much you understood. Immersed is a language immersion tracker and planner. It turns immersion into something you can see, plan and keep: a free plan built from your answers, a daily timeline for the shows, podcasts and books you learn from, and reports of your hours.

Free. About two minutes. No account, no card.

The short version

Checked October 24, 2026. Something out of date? Tell me.

If you have an iPhone and want the lightest possible log, with streaks and reminders and nothing else on the screen, Vervu is built for exactly that, and the lifetime price is low.

If you want a plan for where immersion fits in your day, help finding what to watch, and reports that show what your hours were made of (the mix of activities, how much you understood, the shows behind them), Immersed does more of the job. It also works on Android and on a computer.

01Before you press play

A log is a good start. A plan tells you what to log.

Vervu starts from the moment you've already done something: you watched an episode, you log it. That's the right shape if your routine is set and you only need to keep count.

Immersed starts a step earlier. The free blueprint asks about your time, goals, level and what you already watch, then gives you milestones for your first months, a daily protocol and Hidden Immersion Time: the commute, the dishes, the gym. The timeline then turns that into a day you can tick off, from Wake up to Wind down.

  • A free blueprint in about two minutes, no account needed (just a name and email)
  • Plan tasks into the free gaps of your day, repeat them, get reminders
  • The Fluency Checklist for what to put in place next: 32 things in four stages, the first one free on the blueprint
The example blueprint: a two-hour protocol of Dead Time Listening, Focused Visual Immersion and a Vocab Surgical Strike, with a Shadowing bonus round
From the example blueprint: a two-hour day, block by block.

02While you immerse

Watching, reading, listening, or nine kinds of immersion.

Vervu's App Store listing describes logging what you watch, read or listen to. It keeps things deliberately simple, and for many learners that is the point: fewer choices, less friction, more days logged.

Immersed splits immersion into nine activities: Active Listening, Passive Listening, Active Subtitles, Reading, Study, SRS, Speaking, Writing and Shadowing. Press play and a timer runs, or log a session after the fact. Paste a YouTube, Spotify or Apple Podcasts link and it plays inside the session. After each one you can rate how much you understood.

The split is the point. An hour of a podcast in the background and an hour of a drama with subtitles in your language do different work, and a single total can't tell them apart.

  • Immersed doesn't read your viewing history: you press play (one click on YouTube with Immersed for Chrome) or log it. The Discover scroll and the free listening games log themselves
Press Play. Immerse: a live session clock, on your lock screen too

03Looking back

A total says how long. The report says what it was made of.

Vervu shows your total immersion time, streaks and milestones, with reminders and analytics to keep you coming back. For motivation on a phone, that covers the basics well.

Immersed's Growth page covers week, month, year and all time with your hours stacked by the nine activities, a comprehension line that shows whether you understand more over time, and your top shows and channels with links back to them. Your 1,000 hours and someone else's 1,000 are not the same hours, and that mix is usually what explains a learner two months in who is ahead of one six months in.

There is also a consistency grid with streaks and the days you showed up. Export a PDF, Excel or CSV you can customize, keep monthly reports in My reports, or share a report link.

04Staying with it

Milestones to reach, or an Aim you dress.

Vervu keeps you coming back with streaks, milestones and reminders. It is a simple loop, and it works.

Immersed has Aim, a small pink mascot you dress in outfits earned only by immersing. Nothing is sold. A free account opens the Fitting Room with five day-one outfits and Hour Marks at 1, 5 and 10 hours. With Pro, more outfits come with your hours in a language, from 25 to 1,200, and with habits like a 7-day streak. Ten Profile badges level up from grey to gold, from Hours to Streak to Sprint Finisher.

Each month, Pro has a Sprint you choose to accept: one Mission and Daily Quests that count from the sessions you log. Finish it and you earn the month's medallion for your shelf and that month's outfit for Aim.

Free to start: Aim and the cast in their outfits, with YouTube, Spotify, Netflix, podcasts, Crunchyroll and Viki

Both are good. At different things.

What Vervu does well

  • A focused, uncluttered design: open it, log it, close it
  • Streaks, milestones and reminders that make showing up every day feel good
  • Works for any language you are learning
  • A low price, with a one-time lifetime purchase so there is no subscription to manage
  • The developer reports on the App Store that the app collects no data
  • A native iPhone app, which Immersed does not have yet

What Immersed does that Vervu doesn't

  • Builds you a plan first, from your time, your goals and your level
  • Puts immersion on a daily timeline, with repeating tasks and reminders
  • Knows nine immersion activities and asks how much you understood, so the report shows what your hours were made of
  • Rewards immersion with outfits for Aim, its mascot, badges that level up, and a monthly Sprint with a medallion
  • Tells you what to watch, listen to and read, and gives you a feed that counts
  • Exports reports as PDF, Excel or CSV and imports Toggl history
  • Runs on Android and computers as well as iPhone, in the browser

Pick Vervu if

  • You only use an iPhone and want a native app, not a web app
  • You already know what you watch every day and only want to log it
  • You like a minimal screen and find planners and reports distracting
  • You want to pay once and never think about a subscription

Pick Immersed if

  • You want help deciding where immersion fits in a busy day
  • You want to split your hours by activity, like passive listening vs active subtitles
  • You want help finding things at your level in your language
  • You use Android or a computer, or want to export and share your reports

Use both, or move over

Choosing between them

There is little reason to log the same hour in two apps. If you like Vervu and your routine is working, keep it. If you find you need a plan, more detail on what kind of immersion you did, or reports to look back on, try the free blueprint in Immersed first. It takes about two minutes and needs no account.

If you have older hours in Toggl Track, Immersed can import those from a CSV export so your history starts with everything you already did.

Pricing · checked October 24, 2026

What each one costs.

Immersed

  • Free: the blueprint for one language (with the Toolkit, Library picks and the Fluency Checklist's Foundations), the listening games in 12 languages with their leaderboards, Aim Runner, the Discord and the sample app. A free account also gets the Fitting Room's day-one outfits, Hour Marks and badges from game time.
  • Immersed Pro: $60 a year (starts with a free week, about $5 a month) or $9.99 a month. Timeline, sessions with the nine activities, Discover, Library, Growth and reports, monthly Sprints, more languages.

Vervu

  • Free to download on the App Store, with in-app purchases.
  • In-app purchases listed: Weekly $1.99, Monthly $4.99, Annual $24.99, Lifetime $39.99.
  • The listing does not say which features sit behind the purchase.

Vervu is cheaper, and the $39.99 lifetime option means you pay once. Immersed costs more because it does more than count: the plan, the timeline, the library and the reports. If a simple iPhone log is all you need, Vervu's price is hard to argue with.

FAQ

Questions people ask.

What is Vervu?+

Vervu is an iPhone app from Sewd Company, LLC for logging language immersion: what you watch, read or listen to. It shows your total time, streaks and milestones, with reminders. It is free to download with in-app purchases.

How much does Vervu cost?+

When I checked on 24 October 2026, the App Store listed in-app purchases of $1.99 a week, $4.99 a month, $24.99 a year and $39.99 for lifetime access. Immersed Pro is $60 a year or $9.99 a month, and the blueprint is free.

Is Vervu on Android?+

I only found an iPhone app, which needs iOS 18.6 or later. Immersed runs in the browser on any phone or computer and installs to the home screen. A native Android app for Immersed is in testing for Google Play.

Does Immersed have an iPhone app?+

Not on the App Store yet; a native iPhone app is coming. The Immersed web app installs to your iPhone home screen and works like an app. If a native iPhone app matters most to you today, Vervu has one.

Does either app track my Netflix or YouTube automatically?+

Immersed doesn't read your viewing history: you press play or log the session. With Immersed for Chrome, one click on the YouTube page starts it, and the Discover scroll and the free listening games log themselves. Vervu's listing describes logging what you watch, read or listen to and doesn't mention automatic tracking.

Which is better for staying consistent?+

Both use streaks. Vervu keeps it simple with streaks, milestones and reminders. Immersed adds a consistency grid, a planned timeline so the next session already has a slot in your day, badges that level up, outfits for Aim and a monthly Sprint.

Stop guessing. See what your hours add up to.

Answer a few questions and Immersed builds your plan: a daily routine that fits your life, milestones for your first months, and things to watch at your level. Free, about two minutes, no account needed.

The plan is free and stays free. No card.
