Can I watch on YouTube instead of inside Aim?

Yes. In Settings, under This device, pick Open it on YouTube. Then Get Immersed starts your timer and opens the video on YouTube, instead of playing it inside Aim.
Why you might want to
Get Immersed is built for "just press go": the video plays right inside Aim. That's great for one sitting. A long video or a playlist takes several, and a few things get in the way:
- You want to pick another video in a playlist, or see the whole playlist.
- You want a tool like Migaku for sentence mining. It works on YouTube's own page, not inside the player in Aim.
- You'd rather watch in your browser or the YouTube app.
Steps
-
Open Settings, stay on the Account tab, and scroll to This device.
-
Under When you tap Get Immersed on a video, pick Open it on YouTube.

-
Open your Library or your Immersion List and tap Get Immersed on a video, a playlist or a channel.
-
My timer starts and counts for a second so you can see it has begun. Then the video opens on YouTube.
It works the same for Spotify and Apple Podcasts links: the timer starts and they open on their own site.
The other two choices are Play it in Immersed (the default) and Just the timer, for when you watch on a TV or another device. Your timer starts every time.
What's different
- The timer runs on its own. I can't see what YouTube is doing, so pausing the video doesn't pause the timer. Come back and stop the session when you're done.
- It opens where you stopped. If you've watched it before, inside Aim or on YouTube with the Immersed Chrome extension while a session was running, Get Immersed opens it at that moment. A playlist opens on the video you were on. Never watched it, or it's been more than two weeks: it opens at the start, and signed in to YouTube, YouTube's own place-keeping helps too.
- Migaku and other tools work. They run on YouTube's page, which they can't do inside the player in Aim.
- Only this device. The choice is for the phone or computer you're on. Your other devices keep their own.
- Changed your mind mid-session? In the session, tap Play here and the video comes into Aim.
When it plays inside Aim (the default)
I remember where you stopped. Get Immersed on the same video opens it at that moment, and on a playlist or a channel it opens the video you were on. This works while you're signed in, for two weeks after you last watched, and a video you finished starts from the beginning.

Why did my video start from the beginning?
- You weren't signed in to Aim on that device, or you used the home-screen app one time and Safari the next. They keep their sign-in separately.
- You watched on YouTube without the Chrome extension, or with no session running. Then nothing told me where you got to.
- It had been more than two weeks.
- You'd watched less than a few seconds, or you'd finished the video.
- Aim couldn't reach my servers for a moment. I wait a second and a half for your place, then start from the beginning rather than hold you up.
