Clozemaster fills in the blanks. Immersed plans the hours of real language around them.
Clozemaster is a vocabulary game: a sentence with one word missing, thousands of them, sorted by how common the word is, with spaced repetition. Immersed shows what your hours were made of: each session is one of nine activities, so drill time and real input stay apart, and the mix explains your progress better than a total. It is a language immersion tracker and planner: a free plan built from your answers, a daily timeline for the shows, podcasts and books you learn from, and reports of your hours.

The short version

Something out of date? Tell me.
Clozemaster and Immersed don't compete. Clozemaster is for growing vocabulary in context, and it is a favourite of learners past the beginner course. Immersed is not a flashcard app and doesn't teach vocabulary.
Immersed plans and tracks the hours you spend in your language. Log your Clozemaster rounds as Study or SRS, and they sit on the same timeline as your shows and podcasts. Use Clozemaster to drill, Immersed to plan the input and see what your hours were made of.
01What each one counts
Sentences mastered, or what your hours were made of.
Clozemaster counts sentences: how many you have played, how many are mastered, how far you are through the most common words. Points and a review queue keep you coming back. Most of its sentences and translations come from Tatoeba, a volunteer-built sentence collection.
Immersed counts sessions, and each one is one of nine activities: Active Listening, Passive Listening, Active Subtitles, Reading, Study, SRS, Speaking, Writing or Shadowing. Reports stack your hours by activity, chart how much you understood over time and link back to the shows and channels you spent the most time with.
Hours alone are one number. Your 1,000 hours and someone else's 1,000 are not the same if one of you spent half of them drilling. Clozemaster answers "do I know this word in a sentence?" Immersed answers "what did my time in the language look like this month?"

02Where it fits
A good drill for the middle stretch, not a replacement for input.
Clozemaster is usually recommended to intermediate learners: you already know the basics, and now you need thousands more words. Seeing each one in a full sentence helps. Reviewers also name its limits: it is not for complete beginners, its speaking mode is closer to pronunciation practice than conversation, and isolated sentences are not the same as following a story or a conversation.
That is where Immersed comes in. The free blueprint asks about your time, goals, level and what you already watch, then gives you milestones for your first months, a daily protocol and an Immersion Library of things to watch, listen to and read at your level. The words you drill then show up in real speech.
If quick rounds with points are what keep you going, Immersed has its own: free listening games in 12 languages (numbers, time, years, colors, animals and fruits; Korean has eight games), each with an all-time top 10 per language and a Challenge a friend link. Signed in, your play lands on the timeline by itself as listening time.

03Tracking Clozemaster time in Immersed
Press play, play a round, stop.
Immersed doesn't connect to Clozemaster or read its stats. Start a session in Immersed, pick Study or SRS, play your round, and stop. Forgot? Log the session afterward. You can also add a repeating Clozemaster task to your timeline with a reminder, say 15 minutes on the train.
Over a month you'll see how your time splits between drilling and input. If sentence drills start eating the hours meant for listening and reading, the time by activity chart shows it.

Drill in Clozemaster, immerse and count it in Immersed
Keep Clozemaster for your daily round. In Immersed, add it as a repeating task at the time you usually play, and log it as Study or SRS. Then plan the bigger blocks around it: an episode at lunch, a podcast on the commute, a chapter before bed.
Clozemaster tells you which words you know in a sentence. Immersed tells you how much time you spent hearing and reading those words in real use, and how that time is split.

What each one costs.
Immersed
- Free: the blueprint for one language (with the Toolkit, Library picks and the Fluency Checklist's Foundations), the listening games in 12 languages with their leaderboards, Aim Runner, the Discord and the sample app. A free account also gets the Fitting Room's day-one outfits, Hour Marks and badges from game time.
- Immersed Pro: $60 a year (starts with a free week, about $5 a month) or $9.99 a month. Timeline, sessions with the nine activities, Discover, Library, Growth and reports, monthly Sprints, more languages.
Clozemaster
- Free: sign up and play for free. Free accounts have a daily sentence limit; users reported 30 sentences a day when it started in 2022.
- Clozemaster Pro: unlimited play, unlimited listening practice in 30+ languages, Grammar Challenges, custom review settings, advanced stats and offline downloads.
- Pro on the US App Store: yearly plans listed at $69.99 and $79.99, monthly at $8.99 and $12.99. The yearly plan on the web comes with a 30-day money-back guarantee.
Clozemaster's own Pro page loads prices for your region, so check it there or in your app store. Both are cheap next to a tutor. The question is not which one, but whether you also want a plan and a record of your input hours.
FAQ
Questions people ask.
Is Clozemaster good for intermediate learners?+
It is one of the most common picks for that stage. Once you know the basics, it drills thousands of words in full sentences, most common first. It won't teach you to follow a conversation by itself, so pair it with plenty of listening and reading.
Is Clozemaster free?+
Yes, you can sign up and play for free, with a daily sentence limit. Clozemaster Pro adds unlimited play, more listening practice, Grammar Challenges, offline downloads and more stats. On the US App Store when I checked on 24 October 2026, Pro was $69.99 to $79.99 a year or $8.99 to $12.99 a month.
Where do Clozemaster's sentences come from?+
Clozemaster's FAQ says its sentences and translations come from Tatoeba, a user-curated collection released under a CC-BY license. That is why some sentences can be odd or uneven.
Does Immersed replace Clozemaster?+
No. Immersed is not a flashcard or vocabulary app. It plans, tracks and shows your immersion. Use Clozemaster to drill words, Immersed to plan and count the hours of input.
Should I log Clozemaster as Study or SRS in Immersed?+
Either works, as long as you stay consistent. SRS fits if you mostly clear your review queue, Study if you mostly play new sentences. Both keep the drill time separate from your listening and reading hours in your reports.
Can Immersed read my Clozemaster stats?+
No. Immersed doesn't connect to Clozemaster or read its stats. You press play when you start a round, or log it afterward. The parts of Immersed that log themselves are the Discover scroll and its own free listening games.
